Description:
Micah Fellows is Samford's service-based honors college experience. At the heart of the program is
a four-year honors college experience grounded in the wisdom of Micah 6:8: “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." Throughout their time at Samford, Micah Fellows attend weekly cadres (discussion groups) to discuss ancient, Christian, and modern conceptions of justice, mercy, and humility. Starting their sophomore year, they will be placed to volunteer with a non-profit organization at a Birmingham area service site. After their junior year, Micah Fellows will participate in a service-away trip.
Out of over 175 applications, only as many as 15 new students enroll in the program each year. Your recommendation plays a key role in identifying students who would thrive in this program.

In the Micah Fellows program, students devote several hours a week to their assigned service placements. Please provide an explanation of how well the student would enjoy and excel in a committed, long-term service placement.
We look for students who excel in service but also leadership on campus. How has the student been a leader at their high school (either in an official or unofficial position), and how does the student exemplify integrity and good character through their leadership?
In addition to service and leadership, we are looking for students who are dedicated to reading, learning, and discussing the virtues articulated in Micah 6:8-justice, mercy, humility in small group settings. How would the student perform in such an environment?
Beyond valuing academic performance, the Micah Fellows program finds significance in cultivating a healthy community (both academically and socially) within the program and on campus. What would this student uniquely bring to the Micah Fellows program to positively contribute to our community?
